Why Should I Spring Clean My Home
I used to get annoyed when someone would ask me, “Why should I spring clean my home?” “What’s the point?” But now considering today’s busy world, it’s really a good question.
To be honest, a house can be thoroughly cleaned anytime. You don’t need to wait just for spring. Ideally, complete house cleaning should be done four times a year. But I’m fortunate to get to it twice a year (spring and fall). Many are lucky to do it once per year if they even get to it at all.
Spring – the ideal time to clean
Spring seems to be the ideal time to clean since most people close up their homes during the long winter months. And many run a central heating system to keep their homes warm. Which also circulates a lot of dust in a closed environment during that time.
Then spring arrives with longer days and warmer weather. Window pop open along with doors to let in fresh air. Heating systems are used less often or not at all. Dust settles and the air becomes easier to breathe.
And when you cleaned during the winter, it typically maintenance type dusting and vacuuming. Most likely dust and dirt has built up behind furniture, nooks and crannies. Windows become grimy and walls dirty. It just seems fitting to have a clean home along with the arrival of fresh spring air.
Ways to get spring cleaning done
When you get right down to it, there are only several ways to get spring cleaning done.
- You can do it yourself.
- Hire someone else to clean for you.
- Split it up between yourself and someone else.
- Or ignore it altogether (bad idea).
Doing it yourself
Hiring others to do it for you can be quite expensive, so it makes sense that you can save a bundle by doing it yourself. And you are assured that everything is done thoroughly. However the downside is that it also take up a lot of your time making sure it all gets cleaned. To help you get started, we put together an article, "How to Spring Clean Your Home."
Hiring a service or private contractor
Especially busy people don’t have the time to get it done. hiring someone else to do it makes sure that it gets done. However there are two downsides to hiring others. First it will cost you a lot more even though it saves time. And you are not sure if everything was thoroughly cleaned. Unless of course you stood over them while they worked. But if you did, where is the time savings?
Split up the spring cleaning chores
There are certain rooms and chores that I don’t particular like to do. In those cases, it might be better to hire someone else to do them. And you can clean the areas that you don’t mind doing. Even though it isn’t as cheap as doing it yourself, it still is less expensive than having them do it all. And you would save time from doing those other areas. besides, you don’t have to keep putting it off because you don’t like to do it.
Ignore it altogether
This is NOT a good idea. If your house is a home, it should be thoroughly cleaned at least once a year. And if you do a good job keeping it maintained throughout the year, spring cleaning becomes an easier job to do. Keeping your home basically dust, dirt and clutter free reduces the amount of harmful germs, pests and falling hazards around the house.
